Squid Game season 2, the most anticipated K-series, finally premiered in December 2024, ending nearly three years of waiting since season 1. Unlike groundbreaking season 1, it is more focused on character development and not solely on the game, and is built on the same intriguing storyline. However, it has received diverse reactions from the viewers.
For some, it is fun and suspenseful, for the other half, it is disappointing, as some scenes were just dragged too long in the middle and squeezed towards the end of the episode.
Because the survival thriller depicts the misery of contemporary injustice and exploitation in South Korea, intellectuals would value the Squid Game’s perspective on modern capitalism among its diverse fan base. In the second season, they tried to make it more artistic, deeper, and more complex; A thriller with lots of twists and a lot of violence.

Squid Game season 2: Storyline and plot
In the first season, Gi-hun is shown in the first season preparing to board a flight; in the second season, the plot begins when he chooses not to do so and instead looks for the person in charge of the games to put an end to them for good.
The main character of this season, Seong Gi-Hun, gave up traveling to the States three years after winning the first season and returned with a different plan for a resolution. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life and death game with new participants to win the prize of 45.6 billion.
There is a new game in the series, instead of red light, green light, as depicted in the first season. The new voting element, though, seems to be excessively used, but it still brings thrills. The story proceeds similarly to that of the first season and spends an appropriate time on different characters. A new character, Chul-su, appears in the post-credits scene, hinting at a season 3.

Squid Game season 2: Acting and Performance
Terrific casts seem to get along well with the story and act decently. In both seasons 1 and 2, Sun Oh and Kim Jolo have the best chemistry. Lee Su-huan plays a great supporting role and adds comic relief to the show. Lee Jung Jae carries through a promising performance. The development of his character from free-spirited and carefree to serious and anxious was well portrayed by Hee. T.O.P. also gives an antagonist vibe through his psychotic performance.

Squid Game season 2: Critics’ point of view
The Squid Game saga is rare among the many K-series, which is also praised by critics for its theme on social issues. Some pointed to its pacing and lack of resolution of plot threads. Moving aside critics, it’s just aesthetic, gripping, and full of thrilling experiences and suspense shocks. It is acclaimed for its unique premise, engaging plot, and strong Korean cast performances. So… Squid Game is surely a must-watch as it provides you with an equal dose of comedy, thrill, emotion, drama, fear, and suspense.
Well… for the cryptic ending audience simply has to wait for season three, which is said to premiere in 2025. Happy watch, Squid Game fans… It’s going to be a worthy watch…..
