My First First Love, which premiered in 2019, is a warm, fuzzy rom-com Korean drama based on a fluffy feel-good adult romance, at the same time, light-hearted. With realism at its core and minimal exaggeration, the storyline beautifully portrays the evolution of friendship and the realization of one’s feelings. Though seems slow and a bit cliché in the initial episodes, the pace of things is appreciable.
Each character has a unique personality and perspective, and they were introduced in the story accordingly. The way they help each other in tackling issues is worth watching

When friends become family: Unexpected first love
Storyline and plot
The drama opens up with the 20th birthday celebration of Yoon Tae-oh (Je Soo) with his family; the cynical family scene with a typical stepmother and a wealthy dis affected father. Tae Oh, who always wanted to live out from family and stay in his grandfather’s old house, finally got the approval. For Tae-oh, oh, this is not just a house key; it is the key for both freedom and adulthood.
However, this is quickly jeopardized when, out of nowhere, three of his friends appear on his doorstep. On top of cynicism, these three friends don’t even know each other. A college dropout (Choi-Hoon), a fugitive family friend playing Oh Ga-Rin, and his childhood friend Han Song Yi.
The storyline of childhood love transpires as Song–Yi starts falling for Seo Do-Hyun (Tae–Oh’s friend), and Tae-Oh’s old feelings for her begin to revive. The friendship between Tae-oh and Song-Yi, as well as Tae-oh and Do-hyun, is quite wistful. The love between Tae-oh and Song Yi evolved from a long friendship. Until they saw each other with two other people, they didn’t even realize what they felt about each other. Eventually, some grow in love, and some grow in life as better individuals.

My first first love: Themes and relevance
This drama showcased many emotions, especially in the beginning. With Young adults figuring out their lives, feelings, and love, the plot is rock solid and more entangled with misunderstandings and a love triangle. It’s kind of euphoric to watch Tae–o and Sung–yi finally outgrow their friend zone relationship, also the friendships created along the way were just incredible.
You will laugh loud at times and in between, find tears softly rolling down your cheeks; You will laugh and cry with the characters… it’s so.. relatable with its themes of self discovery, dealing with family pressure and navigating first loves alongside pursuing dreams.
My first first love story: Acting and performance
The casts of the series deliver captivating performances through their dynamic yet enjoyable acting, highlighting individual personalities. The protagonists effectively portray a believable love triangle with their charming dynamics. The cast was mind-blowing, gorgeous, with dashing individuals.

My first first love: critics viewpoint
While some viewers found the pacing to be slow in the later episodes of the series, others hinged on the lack of a compelling narrative drive. The love triangle created a vagueness, and the main romance seemed a bit underwhelming. The drama is also criticized for its unresolved plot points and lack of depth in supporting characters like Choe Hun and O Ga-rin.
Overall, ‘My first first love’ is a must-see and a great show for those who love to watch light-hearted rom-coms filled with jovial and irresistibly charming characters. Short episodes filled with a childhood plotline make it a perfect fit for binge-watching. So… grab some popcorn and enjoy the series…
